Boral digs in over Wagners project in battle of the titans

WAGNERS has overcome concerns by Toowoomba Regional Council and Boral Resources to gain approval for its latest expansion.

Wagners will build a 4000sq m transport and warehouse depot on Ballera Crt in its Wellcamp Business Park.

Developers anticipate there will be 40 full time jobs created at the facility.

Council officers had raised environmental concerns about the project and questioned if it would impact on the nearby quarry.

Boral Quarries operates a quarry at Wellcamp as a lessee to Wagners.

Boral planning and development manager Andrew Lyndon wrote to council and said the mixed use industrial development would be "incompatible" with the quarry due to dust impacts and blasting from a future Wellcamp Quarry.

Developers responded by saying the proposal was not "sensitive in nature".

They argue it is well suited to that area as "industrial" activities are a preferred use close to extractive operations.

Documents tendered to council state the proposal will "gain significant economic advantage" by being close to Wellcamp Airport.

Developer Denis Wagner said the facility tied in well with the logistics airfreight industry which was "starting to get real legs".

Council approved the proposal on June 30.
