BOOK: Rise and Fall of the Murdoch Empire
AUTHOR: John Lisners
PUBLISHER: John Blake
JOURNALIST John Lisners has locked onto the problems facing media baron Rupert Murdoch in his latest offering The Rise and Fall of the Murdoch Empire.
However, one could be forgiven for suggesting that the story might better be called the Rise and Fall of John Lisners.
His book gives some interesting background into the past of the Australian newspaper magnate, but there is little in this book that isn't on the public record except for Lisners' own run-ins with the Murdoch empire.
Lisners' association with News Ltd group newspapers stretches back 35 years.
His experiences put him in a position to give a unique insight into the organisational culture as well as first-hand experience of working with Murdoch and his favourite editors and top advisors.
Murdoch received a significant reality check when his British publication News of the World became embroiled in a phone hacking scandal.
He eventually had to front an inquiry where he had to admit that his had been humbled over the scandal.
However, he remains a powerful media figure and a mover and shaker in politics.
Lisner gives an interesting insight into how the man works and more importantly how his influence works, particularly in the political world.
