A POLICE bomb squad has been called in to dispose of a suspicious package found at Toowoomba Railway Station.

A police spokeswoman said members of the Brisbane-based Explosive Ordnance Response Team were on their way to Toowoomba to investigate a small matchbox-sized item.

Emergency services were notified of the item at 12.25pm.

Officers have set up a cordon around a section of the building and have asked for one of the platforms to be closed.

Paramedics and firefighters remain with police at the scene as a precaution.
