UPDATE: Police believe a man, whose body was found at the Shell Aratula Roadhouse between Warwick and Ipswich, may have died from a drug overdose.

A Queensland Police spokesman said initial investigations suggest the man may have gone on a rampage and smashed up the room he was staying in near the servo at Aratula Village Gap View Motel and Caravan Park.

"His body was found in a garden nearby the service station," he said.

"Given the circumstances we have CIB detectives and scenes of crimes investigating."

EARLIER: A man's body has been discovered at busy highway service station east of Warwick.

Queensland Ambulance and Police crews were called to the Shell Aratula Roadhouse at Aratula on the Cunningham Hwy following the discovery of a man's body at 1.16pm.

It's unclear at this stage what caused the man's death.

**CLARIFICATION: AN earlier version of this story stated the man smashed up the Aratula hotel room he was staying in near the servo. The current version has been changed to clarify that it was in fact a room at the Aratula Village Gap View Motel and Caravan Park.
