Body found in Rio thought to be Australian backpacker

A BODY discovered near Rio de Janeiro may be that of missing Australian backpacker Rye Hunt.

Australian authorities were in contact with Mr Hunt's family on Thursday, as they waited for DNA testing to verify whether or not it was the lost traveller.

The 25-year-old disappeared after reportedly taking the drug NBOMe, a synthetic psychedelic that causes irrational and potentially deadly behaviour.

Mr Hunt's sister, Romany Brodribb, said the family had been upset by images of the body sent to them by Brazilian media.
