FOUR children ran to alert neighbours before police found the bodies of a man and a woman inside a southeast Queensland home this morning.

Police were called to the scene of the suspected murder-suicide on Matas Drive at 6.30am and found two people - a 52-year-old man and 40-year-old woman - dead.

Emergency services swarmed the property following reports of a "disturbance" in the early hours of the morning.

It is understood the children raised the alarm with neighbours following the deaths.

Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said police were still trying to determine the relationship between the man and the woman but they were known to each other.

"Inquiries are in their infancy however I can tell you the two persons were known to each other and at this stage we don't believe a third party has been involved," Det-Insp Thompson said.

"There doesn't appear to be any firearms or weapons of that nature to have been involved in this offence."

Neighbours have said there was a large police presence at the home earlier this month.

They believe the two deceased were a couple with three children.

Police are treating the deaths as suspicious.
