Blues' State of Origin victory most-watched TV event of 2014

LAST night's 100th State of Origin match was the most-watched TV event of the year so far.

An average national audience of 4.058 million viewers tuned in to The Blues' 12 to 8 win over The Maroons at Suncorp Stadium, with the tightly contested match peaking at 4.617 million viewers.

The heart-stopping game was the highest rating State of Origin Game One ever across the five metro cities, and the third highest State of Origin game in the history of ratings agency OzTam's records.

In comparison, 2.507 million viewers tuned in nationally to last year's first game of the interstate Rugby League tournament.

The footy clash even beat this year's grand final of popular reality cooking show My Kitchen Rules, which attracted 3.7 million Aussies.
