PREMIER Premier Anna Bligh has warned people not to give their bank details over the phone to anyone claiming to be from the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.
This follows a case reported to the Premier's Office today which has been reported to the Queensland Police Service.
A woman received a call from a man who claimed to be from the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.
The man asked for the woman's bank details and mobile phone number and said he was going to deposit an amount in her account.
The woman became suspicious and terminated the call. Checks have confirmed the caller was not from the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.
All staff calling from the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal identify themselves by name to the applicant.
The majority of applicants have recorded their bank details on their application form.
A strict policy is now in place and no bank details will be taken over the phone - applicants will be advised this information must be provided in writing.
