Billboard is big but no sign of Clive or his PUPs in Ipswich

THE BILLBOARDS are up, but there is no sign of Clive Palmer's party in three key Ipswich seats ahead of the state election on January 31.

The Palmer United party (PUP) has a giant sign up on Brisbane Rd in Bundamba showcasing Mr Palmer and state leader John Bjelke-Petersen, with another sign located at Yamanto.

But there are no PUP candidates in Bundamba, Ipswich West or Ipswich.

Craig Gunnis, who the manager of Mr Palmer's Sunshine Coast car museum, has nominated for Lockyer.

PUP's primary vote support has slipped to just 1% according to a recent Newspoll.

Ipswich election expert Cr Paul Tully said it was "rather bizarre that the Palmer United Party seems to be doing very little in the local area".

"Across Queensland, if they had run any sort of strong campaign they could have influenced the outcome in a number of seats by directing preferences to one of the major parties," he said.

"Maybe Clive has given up and realises that he is not going to win any seats. According to Sportsbet the PUP will win none of the 89 seats in Queensland."

Cr Tully said Mr Palmer may be "leaving everything until a multi-million dollar media blitz in the last week" of the campaign in order to influence the statewide polling.
