DEPUTY Premier Jackie Trad has rubbished suggestions former Agriculture Minister  and Rockhampton MP Bill Byrne resigned over tree-clearing laws.

Ms Trad paid tribute to her "fantastic friend" Mr Byrne on Sunday morning and wished him well. She said they had not fallen out over Labor's plans to clamp down on tree-clearing should the government retain power at the looming election.

"I had his support absolutely (on tree-clearing laws)," she said.

Mr Byrne has also strongly refuted the suggestion.
