AFTER 10 weeks of hard work, The Block's teams have risen to their biggest challenge so far.
The renovators were tasked with delivering their garages and studio apartments. To put that in perspective, that's about the same size as the first apartments ever renovated on The Block.
Even with a $25,000 budget top-up from jhost Scott Cam, money was tight and the teams had to swap their remaining sponsor vouchers.
When the teams arrived for judging, Scotty joked it looked like a scene from The Walking Dead.
So-called 'villains' Ronnie and Georgia came out on top by just half a point with their home office with wardrobe and en-suite.
"I could have six to eight staff in here no problem," judge Darren Palmer said.
"You could literally run your empire right here."
The judges were impressed with the flexibility of the space, which could be turned into guest accommodation thanks to a sofa bed, and the quality of finishes considering the tight time frame.
"What I love is the fact that right to the finish line there is a determination to deliver to the highest standard," Neale Whitaker said.
'Northside' renovators Josh and Elyse and Sticks and Wombat tied for second place. Both chose to style their studios as guest bedrooms.
Once again Josh and Elyse impressed the judges with their eclectic style.
"Again it's this beautiful mismatch Josh and Elyse do so well," Neale said.
"That amazing bedhead says India, the chair which is mid-century Scandinavian, there's an antique desk and an industrial mirror, but it all works."
The young guns were only let down by the judges' perceived lack of flexibility to turn the studio into a home office.
"It's less easy to imagine this studio space used for anything other than guest accommodation," Neale said.
The judges were blown away by Sticks and Wombat's skylights, which flooded their studio with natural light.
"This is the most successful of these ceilings we've seen so far," Darren Palmer said.
"It has a really beautiful, rustic charm but it doesn't' feel stayed or stuffy. It feels really young and fresh and contemporary."
Hannah and Clint finished third for their most impressive room to date.
"I think it's got a great feel; this is the ultimate gift with purchase isn't it?" Neale said.
"If I was a guest and I rocked up here I'd be in heaven.
"I think Hannah and Clint have really played to the room's strengths and proportions."
Jason and Sarah finished last for having the most amount of unfinished work in their studio.
"They've unfortunately run out of time but not run out steam," Neale said.
"I'm just loving all the blues. That's a wonderful vision in blue there (on the bed). It shows a sophistication Jason and Sarah have developed over the course of this Block."
After the scores were revealed Scotty announced Ronnie and Georgia and Josh and Elyse have set a new Block record for the most room wins, six, in a season.
This upcoming week is the final week of renovations. The teams will complete their front yards and must fix up all of their defects.
Week 11 room reveal scores
Ronnie and Georgia: 29.5
Sticks and Wombat: 29
Josh and Elyse: 29
Clint and Hannah: 27
