ASHLEIGH Barty will try to employ grasscourt tennis' most devastating tactic - a one-two punch - as she chases her first top-10 triumph at Wimbledon on Monday night (EST).

The Queenslander challenges world No 5 and fourth seed Elina Svitolina in an intriguing opening-round encounter.

And, having pushed the Ukrainian in a tight three-set Fed Cup contest in February, Barty is hoping the switch from hardcourt to grass will be decisive.

"I felt like we had a good match in Fed Cup and I certainly felt like I was in the match,” Barty said.

"I think I can change a few things up here and use the grass as best I can.

"It's no secret on the grass that I need to serve well and use my slice to try and get forehands so I can control the court.

"That's what we'll try and do on Monday and a few extra things we might add in there, having looked at the last match.”

Barty is on a huge form roll, having last month claimed her first top-20 victory with success over French Open winner and former world No 2 Garbine Muguruza.

The crafty right-hander used the Muguruza victory as a launching pad to reach the Birmingham final, where she lost in three sets to dual Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.

A clever and beguiling player, Barty is given a solid shot at toppling Svitolina, who lost a French Open quarter-final from a set and 5-1 up against Simona Halep.

Asked if she is ready to topple a top-10 opponent, Barty laughed and said: "I love to say yes but we'll see how we go.

"The match up is obviously a very tricky one and Elina has been playing some phenomenal tennis this year.

"She's had her best season so far.

"Hopefully we can execute what we want to do and I can do a bit of damage.”
