Bali boy to be freed next week

THE 14-year-old NSW boy arrested with 3.6 grams of marijuana on holiday in Bali will be released next weekend after being sentenced to two months in prison.

As court proceedings were open to the media for the first time, Judge Amser Simanjuntak told the boy and his family he was guilty of drug use for his own benefit.

The prosecution asked for the boy to be jailed for three months.

The boy was protected from the gaze of the media pack, standing behind him, by his father and court staff who formed a line obscuring the seated teen.

The boy also held up paper to thwart cameras as the judge read his verdict.
