GYMPIE bakers from Bakers Delight have been named among the best in the industry, taking out top honours for product quality in a recent state baking competition.
Bakers Delight Gympie franchise owners Bruce and Catherine Moore and their team of bakers beat 72 Bakers Delight bakeries throughout Queensland to win overall first place at the Bakers Delight’s bake-off.
Head baker Luke Callaghan said the win was a big boost to staff morale.
“We’ve entered lots of these comps and placed really well, but the competition’s always very tight,” he said.
“It was good for us to have a win. We usually place in the top 10 and there’s always only five points between first and tenth.
“It’s good we’ve lifted our game and can see the results from improvements we’ve made to the quality of our product.”
Six fresh baked products were judged on the day including cape seed loaves, twisted delights, berry scones, sourdough loaves, hi-lo loaves and barbecue pizzas. Products were assessed based on their appearance, aroma and taste.
Mrs Moore said the team’s win highlighted their commitment to providing their customers with superior quality fresh baked bread each and every time they visit Bakers Delight.
“To take out top honours in such a high quality competition is a real testament to the efforts of my team… we pride ourselves on our product quality,” she said.
“It was great to see all our products stand up to the judge’s scrutiny, especially our authentic sourdough loaf which is crafted by hand over eight hours.”
The baking awards, conducted across Australia, aim to show outstanding product quality and lift the standard of baking across the industry. Bakers Delight Gympie is in Goldfields Plaza.
