Back injury puts Cummins out and Faulkner in

THE injury curse has again struck promising young Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins.

Called up to replace veteran quick Ryan Harris during the recent tour of England, the 22-year-old experienced back pain.

Subsequent scans taken on his return to Australia showed an early-stage lumbar bone stress fracture.

Cricket Australia physio David Beakley said the injury would require the New South Welshman to enter into a lengthy re-habilitation program.

Cummins, who was named in the Australian squad for the coming tour of Bangladesh, has had a history of back problems since a man-of-the-match performance in his only Test, against South Africa in 2011.

His place in the squad has been taken by Tasmanian all-rounder James Faulkner, who was fined $A21,000 and left out of the Australian squad for the recent one-day series against England after a drink-driving charge.
