Bachelor's Matty J: A gangly teen with 'really bad acne'

BACHELOR Matty Johnson uncomfortably acknowledges many regarded him as one of Australia's most desirable men but the reality TV star says he was far from that as a teenager.

"I was pretty skinny and weedy in high school," he said. "I had really bad acne as well. I had to go to a lady to see my skin. I also had a growth spurt really quickly and so I was kind of gangly and with pimples."

Johnson had no problem making female friends as a kid but said he was a "slow bloomer" when it came to dating.

"Being friends with girls was one thing but then crossing that line and having relationships with girls, that was something that did scare me when I was younger," he explained.

"It is quite daunting. It is easy to have a laugh with someone but then crossing that line and to be serious ... I remember being 13 or 14 and the thought of asking a girl on a date would be one of the most dreaded things to ask."

In a wide-ranging interview, as part of Confidential's Robed-Up with J. Mo Facebook Live series, Johnson spoke about everything from his desire to one day get his eyebrow pierced to his 12 tattoos (his 13th will be a falcon on his left shoulder) and what he wears to bed.

"I wear briefs, sometimes nothing," he said.

The Sydney marketing exec is a few weeks into the reality series that has seen 22 women vying for his affections.

Details of who he picks as his girlfriend are being kept a closely guarded secret although he insists he's found the woman he could spend the rest of his life with.

As a boyfriend, he believes he is "pretty generous and pretty caring".

"The show does have a happy ending," the 30-year-old said.

"I wouldn't date somebody if I didn't genuinely think that they were someone I could spend the rest of my life with so if I am going to date someone I am going to give 110 per cent."

Sydney accessories designer Laura has been favourite to win the series from the beginning with many saying she looks remarkably alike former Bachelorette Georgia Love, who broke Johnson's heart when he was a contestant on the dating show.

"I think she looks like Kate Middleton more than anything else," he said. "I don't see it (comparisons to Love). They both have brown hair and that's about it."

A deal breaker for Johnson would be a woman who doesn't want to have kids.

"If I met somebody and they were incredible and I was falling in love with them and they turned to me and said they don't want to have kids at all," said Johnson, who wants to have two children. "If they said there was zero chance of me having kids, it would be a deal breaker."
