Art group back again for 2011
THE Lockyer Valley Artists Inc. eagerly gathered for their first workshop for 2011, held in the Function Room of the Laidley Cultural Centre.
They held a watercolour workshop with a professional artist from the Gold Coast, Jan Lawnikanis, who shared some of the techniques that combine to make this fascinating and popular medium come to life.
Members produced some lovely floral designs that helped their understanding of light and darks in the plant world.
This workshop was funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund which is a Queensland Government (Arts Queensland) and Lockyer Valley Regional Council partnership that supports local crafts and culture.
The group has returned from their Christmas break recently, rejuvenated and looking forward to producing some interesting artistic activities for the Valley and beyond.
Secretary Judith Baker said that art and craft interests were among some of the best therapy available to help lift the community's spirit after the recent heartbreaking events resulting from the unprecedented severity of the floods.
To kick start the year the LVARTS members had a morning activity, enjoying Persian cooking demonstrations, ending with a taste test of the culinary delights that were shared amongst members.
Neil Wildsmith, the group's president, and his wife Margaret have been working diligently over the last few weeks, raising funds to help people in the community whose lives have been changed completely with either loss of life, or livelihood or their homes.
Approximately $5000 has been raised from the sale of donated plants, under the collective name of “Lockyer, Dinkum Doers”.
The Lockyer Valley Artists Inc. have also made a generous donation towards the fund-raising efforts to assist the resurrection of the way of life that makes the Lockyer Valley Region a pleasant and laid back place to live.
