Another year leaps by ... but Angela is no older

ANGELA de Martino Rosaroll's birthday has turned into more of a festival than a one-dayer.

While some may sulk about only having an "official" birthday once every four years, the Grafton Regional Art Gallery curator just uses being born on a leap year's February 29 as an excuse to cele- brate on February 28 and March 1 as well.

We caught up with Mrs de Martino Rosaroll yesterday at the first of her "birthfest" celebratory lunches at the Gallery Cafe.

"Do you mind if we ask your age?" I asked.

"No, not at all, I don't mind people knowing," she said.

"I'm nine and a quarter."

The best thing about being born on February 29, according to Mrs de Martino Rosaroll, was having a huge party to make up for missing out on the other three years.

"My best birthday was when I turned 32 (eight) and I had a jumping castle, which was pretty special," she said.

"Last year we hired a house and had a big '80s-themed party."

Of course the year after the main event is but a memory is always a little sad, but Mrs de Martino Rosaroll said she would keep her spirits high with a spot of shopping and dinner at Grafton's No.1 Duke St.

With just three more years until she makes it into double figures (10), she's threatening to turn it into the biggest bash yet.
