Sixth generation at Mt Whitestone State School
BEGINNING Prep was more than just the start of schooling years for young Emily Brooking.
When she packed her school bag for the first time and headed for Mt Whitestone State School, she was following a family legacy and is now a sixth generation to attend the school.
Emily's mother Kylie Sutton said she knew her daughter, with two more siblings to follow, was going to attend the school.
Kylie started at the school in 1989 and was followed by her three sisters.
"It was just the one building here and I was the only one in my grade," she said.
"I am happy to see it's grown and the community is still very active."
Since 1894, numerous family members have attended the school, including Emily's great great grandmothers Susan Baker and Priscilla Woolf, great great great aunty Miriam Baker, great great grandfather Charles Poole, great great grandmother Martha Neumann, great grandfather Jack Sutton, granddad John Sutton, grandmother Beverley Neumann and then her mother.
The school has 21 students, Emily is one of two Prep students at the school this year.
Principal Mark Pennycuick said the school remained the central point of the community and was happy to see generations of the same family attend the school.
"The school is for the community and it is great to have the community supporting it."
