A RETIRED church minister believes the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Palestine in recent days may be the start of a giant holy war - and his daughter is in the middle of it.
Reverend Gerald Rowlands, who has lived and worked in Israel, believes the Bible, in Psalm 83 and Zechariah chapter 12 verses eight to 10, makes reference to a war between the two lands
Mr Rowlands said that although the Bible did not say when the war would occur, the increasing conflict between the two countries and activities in Egypt led him to believe it could be imminent.
He said he was concerned for the safety of his daughter, Kathryn, 50, who has lived in Israel for the past 20 years.
Kathryn is based in Jerusalem and attends university in Tel Aviv, where she is studying trauma treatment.
He said he had suggested that she come back to Australia but she had decided to stay.
"She's got a real love of people from the Middle East and wants to be able to help," he said.
"She feels that's where she's got to be so she's staying there," he said.
Mr Rowlands said the Bible pointed to Israel being protected by divine intervention.
"It says that the Angel of the Lord will lead the defence of Israel," he said.
Mr Rowlands said Israel's victory would change the world because "it will clearly be supernatural".
