Angels funds boost
LOCKYER Valley Relay For Life team, Angie's Angels, is off to a great fundraising start.
Laidley's Queensland National Hotel donated more than $1000 of proceeds from last weekends car show weekend to the team.
QN's Liz McCormack said the donation was made in an effort to give back to community.
“I just think we take all the time and sometimes we just have to give some of it back,” she said.
Miss McCormack said she would like to thank everyone that donated on the day.
Team Captain Angie Campbell feels passionate about getting involved in events like Relay for Life.
“When we first did it, it was for a friend that had passed away from cancer but then the next year I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she said.
“Once it has happened to you, you really do start to realise how many people are affected.
“There really is a certain amount of awareness that you come to know when that door has been opened.”
Angie has been cancer free for five years and knows what the money means to cancer sufferers and their families.
“It isn't just the money for cure for a cancer, it's the support they receive from it and the way it can make someone's time of it a bit easier,” she said
Angie said their golf day in Laidley this Sunday will be their major fundraiser.
“I really hope people get involved, whether it's because of a connection with cancer or just because it will be a great day,” she said.
She said the Relay is shaping up to be a great event.
“Usually when you say it is for cancer, people are fairly generous,” she said
“It is a little hard to organise, but once you get there the hardest part is done and all that is left is to enjoy the day.”
All proceeds from the two-session golf day will go towards the Relay for Life.
Bookings can be made at the Laidley Golf Club on 5465 1518.
