Brothers threatened with fishing knife in family fight

AN ONGOING family rift could have ended violently when a Curra man threatened his two brothers with a fishing knife at Southside.

Ashley Brian Lawrence, 25, pleaded guilty to possessing a knife on the side of Mary Valley Rd and Power Rd on April 25, but told Gympie Magistrates Court yesterday it was in self defence.

When Lawrence attended the Gympie Police Station the next day he was further charged for being a public nuisance after he swore at police officers in frustration about the matter.

Pleading guilty to public nuisance, the court heard Lawrence was remorseful and apologetic for his actions which he said were a result of a long-time feud where he had tried to cut ties with his brothers.

Lawrence was convicted and placed on six months probation for both charges.
