THE Ipswich teenager accused of bashing a girl in the head with a coffee cup at Schoolies will reappear in court next year after an application for mediation.

Kate Nicole Szepanowski, 18, appeared at the Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company.

In a brief appearance, her defence lawyer asked for a month-long adjournment with mediation being sought.

Szepanowski walked out of the court into a media pack which she walked past without comment.

Her mother, who was supporting her in court, told the assembled news crews: "It will come out in the end", and described her daughter as "a lovely girl".

Szepanowski has been accused by police of getting into a fight with another teenager in a Gold Coast hotel room on Ferny Ave in the early hours of Tuesday, November 19.

The fight escalated and Szepanowski is alleged to have picked up a coffee cup and hit the other girl in the head with it.

A photo of the girl, covered in blood, appeared on social media, causing Szepanowski to hand herself into Ipswich police the next day.

The matter was adjourned until Thursday, January 16.
