All-rounder leads way as Redbacks topple Tigers

SOME middle and lower-order resilience from South Australia ensured the hosts took first innings points against reigning Sheffield Shield champions Tasmania at Adelaide Oval yesterday.

All-rounder Johan Botha, batting at No.6, and No.7 Tim Ludeman scored 65 each before No.9 Kane Richardson blasted 49 from 29.

That was after first-drop Travis Head made 98 as the Redbacks were dismissed for 397 in reply to the Tigers' 291.

Australian hopefuls Phil Hughes (pictured, seven), Callum Ferguson (33) and Tom Cooper (26) failed to build on their starts.

Tasmanian off-spinner Xavier Doherty took 5-96 while Luke Butterworth snared 3-71.

In-form Tigers youngster Jordan Silk was 70 not out alongside Ed Cowan (66) in his team's second innings at stumps yesterday, with the visitors 1-141 and 35 runs in front going into today's final day of play.
