Aldi con job: Manager caught making dodgy refunds

A SUPERMARKET supervisor conned her Coast employer over a period of three months with dodgy homewares refunds.

Casey Rebecca Lewis, 23, was working at Aldi in Brightwater as a shift supervisor when she stole $1605 between March and May this year.

Using her position of trust, she put through nine false refunds before taking the cash into a back office and pocketing it.

The items Lewis refunded included bar fridges, an acoustic guitar, a chest of drawers and caravan covers.

She has since repaid the money and remains working in retail, but not in a position where she has access to money.

On Thursday, Lewis pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court to one count of stealing by clerks or servants.

Lewis' lawyer told the court her client had a history of showing a "lack of judgement" including an instance in her criminal history where she was caught driving slowly with her partner on the roof of the car.

However, Lewis had stopped taking her psychiatric medication at the time which her doctor contended could have contributed to her offending.

Magistrate Ron Madsen sentenced Lewis to 60 hours of community service and 12 months' probation.
