AN ALL Black supporting streaking granny featured on an Air New Zealand safety video may be a hit with Kiwis, but she's not being seen on long-haul flights because of cultural concerns.

In a nod to New Zealand's rugby-mad culture, the clip - dubbed Crazy About Rugby - features All Blacks captain Richie McCaw, Mils Muliaina, Richard Kahui and coach Graham Henry.

At the end of the video, a flight attendant says: "From the airline that's crazy about rugby, kia ora and have a great flight."

A naked elderly woman then runs past him and down the aisle, as passengers dressed in various rugby team colours cheer her on.

Despite being a hit with many Kiwi passengers, the streaking granny has been edited from the video played on most international flights, for cultural reasons.

An Air New Zealand spokeswoman said yesterday that there were two versions of the clip, one for long-haul flights and the other - featuring the granny streaker - for domestic, Australian and Pacific Islands flights.

"The clip which plays on our long-haul flights doesn't contain the streaking scene, as not all cultures are familiar with the idea of streaking at major sports events," she said.

The video clip has been viewed almost 950,000 times on YouTube, with many people commenting about "the naked granny", who now has a cult following.

She was recently revealed as 78-year-old Betty Messent, of West Auckland, after she helped save a man who had fallen into a creek.

Ms Messent had been walking home from the shop with her partner Russell Officer when they heard the man's cries for help.
