Adopt-a-pensioner attracts support to help seniors

SUNSHINE Coast residents have united together as a safety net for aged pensioners who may be struggling to pay their bills.

Adopt-A-Pensioner Sunshine Coast hopes to help aged pensioners to stay afloat and on top of their bills with the help of small community donations.

Since starting the page a few weeks ago, Maroochydore mum Cherie Hamilton said she had been overwhelmed with residents putting their hands up to take part.

Ms Hamilton said she started the page after seeing just how tough aged pensioners were doing, despite many suffering in silence.

"Older people seem to be afraid to ask for help. They come from an age group where there's too much pride to come forward," she said.

The Adopt-A-Pensioner idea sparked after Ms Hamilton and a few others came together through a Facebook post to help an aged pensioner out with an overdue electricity bill.
