Accused surfboard basher found hiding in resort bin

A 20-YEAR-OLD man was found hiding in a Moffat Beach resort industrial bin last night after allegedly robbing a teenager and bashing him with a surfboard.

Officers were called to a car park on Queen of Colonies Pde about 7.50pm yesterday.

Police alleged the 20-year-old man had approached a group of people who were taking photos and became aggressive towards them.

The man then allegedly stole car keys from the ignition of the vehicle, to which an 18-year-old man responded by trying to get them back.

The teenager was then allegedly hit with a surfboard, which the 20-year-old man had at the time.

Police were called and the 20-year-old man fled.

Witnesses reported seeing officers with guns drawn searching for the man.

Officers said they found him hiding in an industrial bin at the nearby Norfolks on Moffat Beach resort.

Thomas William Spencer Lowe, 20, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, robbery with violence, attempted robbery and trespassing.

Lowe was due to appear in custody in Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning however duty lawyer David Crews said Lowe was not in a proper state to be brought up from the police watch house.

"I can't take instructions from him," Mr Crews said.

Lowe's matters were adjourned for mention again tomorrow.
