IN the dusty outback surrounding Alice Springs a crew of Aboriginal women is celebrating.
The Waltja Tjutangku Palyapayi Aboriginal Corporation helps improve the lives of Aboriginal families in remote central Australia.
And now the group's work has been recognised.
Waltja was awarded the country's best-run Aboriginal organisation at the Indigenous Governance Awards this week.
The Marruk Project - a theatre troupe from Swan Hill - was named the country's best-run indigenous project.
Awards chairman Professor Mick Dodson said the pair - chosen from 113 organisations - represented the best of what was happening in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and across Australia.
