ABC drone footage seized after it was flown over NSW Prison

THE ABC's national indigenous affairs reporter is in hot water with the authorities for flying a drone over Tamworth prison.

Footage of the prison taken by reporter Bridget Brennan and cameraman Michael Noll was seized by police after the drone was spotted by prison staff yesterday morning.

Brennan has been reporting on the death in custody of Aboriginal man Tane Chatfield, 22, who was found unresponsive in the jail last week and died in hospital two days later.

The death is being investigated but is not being treated as suspicious.

NSW Corrections Minister David Elliott condemned the ABC's use of a drone to fly over the prison as a "reckless and irresponsible act".
