Geoff McMahon's numerical retirement in Gatton
GEOFF McMahon's retirement couldn't have been timed more perfectly.
Not only was his last day as a working employee a momentous occasion in his life, but a global phenomenon not to be seen for another 90 years.
Right down to the minute Mr McMahon finished his last ever shift at RT Edwards in Gatton and entered retirement in style by knocking off on the 11th day of the 12 month of the 13th year in the millennium.
The last consecutive date for this century, Mr McMahon decided to make the day extra special by finishing at 9.10am to finish his last ever shift at 9.10, 11/12/13.
While some chose to tie the knot on the rarity or considered it as lucky, Mr McMahon said he saw it a fitting time to call it quits from working life.
"That sounded like a good date and doing it in style," Mr McMahon said.
"It's just unique and you'll always remember the day and time you call it quits.
"They (colleagues) had a chuckle about it too."
Mr McMahon's retirement capped off a long and distinguished career within the revolutionary world of electrical equipment and technology.
"I've been in the appliance industry since January 8, 1969," he said.
"All but 45 years.
"It was a good experience and good fun."
Mr McMahon said one of his career highlights was receiving an award for top salesman in 2006.
