Public memorial for Keith Williams

A PUBLIC memorial service for developer Keith Williams, who died last month at 82, will be held on the Gold Coast today.

The controversial Queensland developer was behind the developments of Hamilton and Daydream islands, as well as Sea World and Port Hinchinbook.

Tourism Minister Jan Jarratt said Mr Williams made a significant contribution to Queensland, particularly in the Whitsunday region.

"His life was not one without controversy, but there can be no doubt he made a big contribution to our state," she said.

"He was a Queenslander with an ambition and work ethic as big as the state he loved.

"Our thoughts are with wife Thea, children Ben and Rebecca and their families."
