Wheel bounces over road and hits worker right in the head

A MAN escaped serious injury yesterday when a car wheel came free from a vehicle, bounced across two lanes of traffic and hit him in the head in a Kawana car park.

Ambulance crews were called to Nicklin Way at 1.30pm after the wheel and tyre from a four-wheel-drive struck the man at the corner of Nicklin Way and Point Cartwright Dr.

A Police Media spokesman said the 43-year-old man was working to erect a sign at the intersection when he was caught in the crossfire.

The driver noticed his steering was shaking while travelling on Point Cartwright Dr and turned left into the southbound lanes of Nicklin Way to investigate.

Before he could stop completely, the front wheel came off, bounced across the southbound lanes, hit another vehicle and mounted the gutter outside Kawana Shoppingworld.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the man was taken to Caloundra Hospital in a stable condition.

Paramedics said the man suffered mild blistering to the face.

Police are investigating the incident.

No charges have been laid against the driver.
