Suburbs brace for campaign as Stafford by-election announced

A BRISBANE suburb will be plagued by endless door-knocking and political sloganeering for the next month, after Premier Campbell Newman issued the writs for a by-election to replace outgoing LNP member Dr Chris Davis.

Dr Davis - the former head of Geriactric Medicine at Brisbane's Prince Charles Hospital - was dumped as Assistant Minister for Health in May.

His sacking followed his public criticism of the government's negotiations with doctors and changes to the Crime and Misconduct Commission.

The by-election will be held on July 19.

If the LNP loses the seat, it will have no impact on its majority in the Parliament.
