Woman dies, car on roof, second crash on highway

UPDATE: POLICE are investigating a fatal car crash which took place on Second Avenue, Maroochydore, about midday today.

A woman struck down by the car died at the scene while the 76-year-old man behind the wheel was taken to Nambour Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

 

UPDATE: AN ELDERLY woman has died and a man has been seriously injured after a horrific crash in Maroochydore which left a car on its roof.

Witnesses said a black four-wheel-drive came down Second Avenue near the Maroochydore RSL before hitting three parked cars and two pedestrians on Friday.

One of the pedestrian died at the scene despite the efforts of staff from a nearby surgery.

The other pedestrian was reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

The injured pedestrian was being taken through to Nambour General Hospital.

An anesthetist and nurse from across the road of the accident performed CPR on the person who died.

The two people in the black four-wheel-drive were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police from the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the crash.

Initial reports suggested the elderly driver may have blacked out.

Second Avenue was closed and vehicles were being diverted from the area.

Meanwhile, south bound traffic on the Bruce Highway has been brought to a standstill by a car crash near Forest Glen.

Early reports are that a northbound vehicle has crossed the median strip and flipped into the southbound lanes just south of Ilkley Road.

There has been periods of heavy rain on the Coast which may have contributed to the latest crash.

It is understood there were only minor injuries.
