Court hears of terror felt by during armed robbery

A YOUNG Maryborough man is on trial accused of threatening a man while holding a "cold object" to his throat during an armed robbery.

Darcy John Dufty and a female friend allegedly stole $450 and medication from the man on the Hervey Bay esplanade on February 17 this year.

The alleged victim spoke of how scared he was when he testified on the first day of the trial in the Brisbane District Court on Monday.

While the man could only describe the supposed weapon as cold, he said he feared it was a knife.

"My life is more important to me than a box of bills and $450," he told the court.

The man said he was sitting in the passenger seat of his car while Dufty sat behind him and Dufty's female accomplice was sitting in the driver's seat.

The woman and the alleged victim had decided to drive to the beach in his car and were driving out of the man's friend's driveway when Dufty jumped into the back seat of the car.

The man testified he did not know Dufty personally and had only seen him at the woman's house a few times.

But she told him Dufty was a friend, he said.

He told the court he thought Dufty's name was Corey or Cody.

He testified the woman told him to give them his pills and money when they were parked, while Dufty held the unknown object to his throat.

The man said the pair ran off, but before Dufty left he told him if he knew what was good for him he would stay in the car.

The trial continues today. - APN NEWSDESK
