Alleged Mexican drug cartel weapons and drug cache found

TWO men allegedly operating as part of a Mexican drug cartel in Sydney's affluent north shore could face life in prison after they were allegedly found with 30 kilograms of methamphetamine, guns and a large amount of cash.

Fairfax media reported Mexican nationals Federico Gonzalez Magana, 32, and Juan Vergara Rodriguez, 49, were arrested at the weekend in Neutral Bay after a joint investigation between the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Crime Commission.

They were refused bail after appearing in court via video link on Saturday and will go before Sydney's Central Local Court on Wednesday.

Federal police executed search warrants at addresses in Manly, Pennant Hills and Moore Park where they found $2 million in cash, two firearms and the large amount of methamphetamine with a street value of $30 million.

Australian Crime Commission national manager of investigations Richard Grant said the men were allegedly part of a Mexican cartel targeting Australia.
