READY to get what you really wanted for Christmas?  

So $76,610 isn't exactly a small amount for most of us, but it's a bit of an eyebrow-raiser when it pays for a new Porsche on the driveway.  

Available now to order is a new entry-level Macan SUV, landing at a decent $15k cheaper than the current entry price of $91,855 for the all-wheel-drive Macan S Diesel or $92,800 for the Macan S.  

These are by far the cheapest new Porsches in Australia: the Boxster, Cayman, Panamera, Cayenne and, of course, the dear old 911, all cost well into six-figures.  

The cheapie Macan may only use a turbocharged four-cylinder, but by producing 185kW and 370Nm and mated to a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission it still cracks 100kmh in 6.7 seconds and on to 229kmh. Still plenty to brag about at the private school gates, then.  

Combined fuel economy is a quoted 7.4L/100km, which is more than acceptable for a 1770kg SUV with such performance.  

For your $76k you still get Porsche's smart Traction Management PTM active all-wheel drive system, while air suspension with adaptive dampers is available as an option.  

Standard kit isn't too shabby, with Porsche including a reversing camera with front and rear park assist, lane departure warning, electric driver's seat, Alcantara seat inserts, tri-zone climate control, navigation and voice control system.

Also available in the range are the GTS, Turbo and Turbo Performance Package Macans, the latter doing the 0-100km in a physics-defying 4.4 seconds thanks to its 324kW/600Nm boosted 3.6-litre.  

With this range-topper costing $143,500 before on-roads, it's nearly twice the price of the new entry-level Macan. You pays your money you takes your choice...
