3730 head yarded in Gracemere

ROCKHAMPTON combined agents yarded a total of 3730 head, comprising of 1580 steers, 690 cows, 1300 heifers, 30 cows and calves and 130 bulls.

There was a considerable lift across all categories.

Prime cattle met with strong competition from the processors. Feeder steers and heifers were dearer on last week's rates.

Better quality weaner steers and heifers met with strong demand.

Steers to the slaughter topped at 290c/kg to average 276c/kg while steers 400-500kg to top 301c/kg averaging 279c/kg.

Steers 200-300kg topped at 375c/kg to average 334c/kg.

Cows to the slaughter went for a top of 260c/kg averaging 234c/kg while cows 320-400kg went for a top of 218c/kg to average 189c/kg.

Heifers 300-400kg to top 306c/kg to average 258c/kg to a firm market.

Heifers 200-300kg to top 360c/kg to average 271c/kg.

Bulls over 600kg topped at 261c/kg to average 245c/kg while bulls 450-600kg topped at 257c/kg to average 240c/kg.

Highlights:

  • Colinta Holdings, Rolleston, sold heavy charbray cows to top at 250c/kg, weighing 739kg to return $1849.
  •  Dale and Jane Gronow, Kuttabul, sold weaner brangus heifers for 284c/kg weighing 208kg to return $590.
