POLICE say they have seized more than 307,000 child pornography images from around the world after shutting down an illegal website allegedly run by a Gold Coast man.

Queensland police today announced the closure of Operation Gatekeeper, which targeted the major international website and led to charges against 21 Queenslanders, including a 15-year-old child.

A police statement said the website was split up into a number of categories and allowed the posting of child exploitation images, while also being a place where people requested similar images and posted comments.

“More than 21,000 internet addresses from 100 countries provided images to the site, with almost 1000 being Australian based internet addresses.”

A police spokeswoman said a total of 307,000 images were seized as a result of further investigations.
