HELPING HAND: Colin Ruge, Maureen Edmunds, Jacky Campbell, Dawn Carrillo and Greg Spann are just a few of the SES crew members who have been helping out flood affected towns over the past week.
A SPECIAL taskforce of SES members deployed to assist crews in the flood affected areas of south-west Queensland returned home last week.
The 17 strong taskforce from throughout the region descended upon the towns of Charleville, St George and Roma for five days after torrential downpours threatened and caused significant damage to numerous homes.
Forest Hill SES group leader Shane Engel travelled to Charleville as part of the taskforce to assist local SES members with preventative measures against the threat of possible floodwaters.
"We went to support the local SES and give them new fresh help," Mr Engel said.
"The poor buggers were working 24/7 and we gave them a bit of a break and helped out.
Mr Engel said the crew played a supportive role in Charleville through pumping water, sandbagging, door knocking and assisted with river crossings.
"As part of the taskforce you help people that's what we are here for - to help people," he said.
"It was a good experience.
"I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it, it's very rewarding."
Mr Engel, who has joined crews in the flood affected town of Roma to assist in clean up efforts, said the SES were like one big family and enjoyed helping out when possible.
"The people from the Charleville SES came and helped out Grantham, so it was good to return the favour."
Multiple other Lockyer Valley SES members have since also travelled to Roma and Mitchell to assist in clean up efforts.
