ALMA 'Monnie' Raymont is a gale force wind keeping the Lockyer Valley moving forward in true Australian fashion.

Last week Monnie was awarded the 2012 Lockyer Valley Citizen of the Year award in recognition of her constant efforts, pumping time and energy into community organisations.

The need to freely donate her time to help out the Lockyer Valley has always run thick in Monnie's blood she said.

"I've always liked to help people and give my time," she said.

Organisations which have gratefully accepted her time include the Parents and Citizens Association, for seven years and the Lockyer Tennis Association where she was a treasurer for a decade.

She also volunteers at the Glenore Grove Queensland Country Women's Association (QCWA) as treasurer.

"The QCWA was always something I was interested in," Monnie said.

Monnie's interest in the Gatton Show Society led to her becoming a life member of the group, where she served as vice president for 40 years.
