ESK residents and visitors alike flocked to the Esk Caravan Park last Thursday for happy hour with the Dometic Follow the Sun promotion winners.
Winners Di and Jay Goncalve said their trip so far had been the experience of a lifetime, but they were happy to finally be in Queensland.
“I tell you when we got here it was almost shorts and shirts weather straight away, I thought that it could not be better,” Mr Goncalve said.
Mr Goncalve said his first impressions of Esk were positive.
“I sat there, near the four-wheel drive this afternoon and I thought, hey, this is actually an amazing view,” he said.
“It is a different environment, it's quiet, it's peaceful and it's a really natural place to stay.
“There is more park here than caravan.”
He said he liked stopping in small towns on his journey and Esk was no exception.
“Esk is as big as it needs to be, but still small enough to care,” he said.
“Everyone is so nice in places like this.
“I sent Di to the pub before, because I knew if I went I would start talking to someone and wouldn't get back here in time.”
He said people coming to the happy hour showed a genuine interest in the products and the lifestyle he and his wife are living because they are either travellers or want to be travellers.
Mr Goncalve said the trip has allowed them more time to see things off the beaten track.
Di Goncalve said their trip with Dometic finishes at the Gold Coast next week, but they will continue their journey on their own up to North Queensland.
She said she hasn't stopped smiling since they won the prize.
“It was the first competition I had ever entered, so there you go,” she said.
