NESTLED in the booming region of Fernvale, Gav's Glass is a business no one should overlook.
Last year, owners Gavin and Lauren Bunnett took home the Young Business Person of the Year.
They are encouraging people to get involved in the 2010 Star Business Awards for businesses throughout the Lockyer Valley and Brisbane Valley region, big or small.
Mr Bunnett said winning the accolade has made them take a closer look at the way they do business.
“It also makes you stand up and be more proud of yourself,” he said.
“A lot of customers have called and congratulated us, which has been great.”
The couple have said the business is still growing because they have put on more staff as they are getting more people through the door.
“We bought another truck to do work more effectively; we saw it as a way to improve our service on site.”
Mrs Bunnett said it is important for businesses to nominate to put yourself on the map.
“You get your name out there and it gives you a guide to know whether or not you're heading in the right direction.”
“Every day we are looking at how we can improve our business with a focus on customer service.
“We have hired a new apprentice, Asher Wolff and Rebecca Reside who will help me with administration and office work.”
The couple were surprised that they had been nominated last year and said word of mouth is a big thing in a rural area.
“We didn't realise the awards existed until someone rang us up, but we still don't know who nominated us,” she said.
“It is like having a feather under your cap and it shows working long hours is appreciated by our customers.
“There is plenty of work in the area and we have been operating for three years,” Mrs Bunnett said.
Mr Bunnett has spent 15 years in the industry and the couple have been locals for most of their lives as there is a strong family history in the area.
