Laidley football rundown

HERE are the Laidley football results from the past week.

U9: Cheetahs defeated the Highfields U9 Jedis 5-3 on Saturday. Goal scorers were Joseph Clough (2), Liam Hatcher, Clayton Melling and Bryden Schultz.

U9: Tigers played Highfields Harleys in chilly Toowoomba. This game will be looked back on as the great escape. Going into the last five minutes still down 1-0, the Tigers rallied with three quick goals. Great work in goal and scoring one goal was Noah Davidson and two goals to the late arriving Ashley Gibson. Good efforts by Connor Plant, and Mitchell Niethe.

U11: Cougars played Pittsworth Vikings in the semi-final on the weekend. Cougars fought a courageous battle but were denied a place in the preliminary final by the Pittsworth Vikings who played a great game. Cougars went down 4-1. Sam Brown scored the Cougars only goal for the match.

U14/15: Lions were successful in securing a grand final berth on Saturday, downing the Garden City Celtics 2-1. Great defensive prowess was shown by Sam Underwood who continued to attack the ball and create forward movement, with Tayler Britton also playing a very solid game. Goal scorers were Jeremy Vejle, and Myall Fell with a cleverly taken strike to open the scoring.

Seniors

Colts: played their first ever finals game against a determined Highfields.

Midway through the first half Highfields came out of their shell and started to dominate Laidley only for Laidley to repel the attack with some close calls just missing the goal.

Job King in goal was keeping Laidley in the game with some great saves just before half time to go to the break nil all. The second half proved to be just as tense and exciting.

Laidley found some room wide and Toby Lehmann hit a long range bomb to level the score 1-all midway through the second half. Again Highfields scored again with 15 minutes to go and looked set to run away with the game; however Laidley hit back. The last ten minutes was fast and both teams pushing hard as Highfields had the better of the opportunities.

At full time it was a 2-all draw with extra time to come. In the first half of extra time Highfields found two goals to lead at half-time 4-2. Laidley never gave up and scored a goal in the first five minutes' of the second half in extra-time. Laidley tried but could not find the back of the net another time to level the scores back up. Highfields sealed the win with a late goal winning 5-3 over Laidley.

Girls: came up short in their match up with Minor Premiers Gatton on Saturday to see who went straight into the Grand Final. Both teams played entertaining football but were unable to get on the score sheet in the first half. Two goals in the second half to the Gatton side were good enough to see them have the week off with the difference between the two sides being Gatton's eagerness to compete for the ball. The Wildcats now face the very much improved St Ursula's.

Women: failed to produce their best form in their match with Rockville on Sunday. Laidley began the match with attacks on goal and contained a spirited Rockville midfield but failed to produce any goals in the opening 20 minutes. Rockville's attacks on goal were few and far between, however opened the scoring with a break away shortly before half-time.

The match ultimately went into extra-time with Rockville earning a finals berth with a 2-1 win.

Men: turned in a plucky performance in their final match of the season against Chinchilla. Blair Goodwin played a courageous role as goalkeeper, whilst Andrew Martin and TJ McGoldrick turned in solid performances. Good to see the men giving it their all and trying till the final whistle in a 3-0 loss to Chinchilla.
