MANY organisations are going with the flow and evolving with technology as we enter the age of Twitter, Facebook and the YouTube generation.
As part of the revolution, Lockyer Valley Regional Council (LVRC) launched a new interactive website for the community last Wednesday.
It will beneficial for the community to search for lost animals, reporting potholes and road repairs, applying for new wheelie bins, town maps as well as have better access to business and community directories.
This also includes emergency, road closures and other general happenings in the region.
LVRC enlisted the help of Ice Media to build the website which has been in the making for more than a year.
The website will also feature links to various social networking sites.
Councillor Graham Moon said the new site was important to the region because it is not a normal council website.
“The building of the site has been helped by the input of the community and there is more than one gigabyte of information available,” Cr Moon said.
“A lot of work has been put into the community-based site with relevant, up-to-date content and new features. We are making an attempt to engage community and business groups.”
One of the designers of the site from Ice Media, Greg Anders, said they did a lot of testing in the design stage.
“There are quick links to key services and now people can put a photo of their impounded animal online to see if their pet is there,” Mr Anders said.
People will also be able to upload forms for community events to the site for approval.
Councillor Janice Holstein said it had been a lengthy process but was worth it.
“Good things come to those who wait and I am really excited about this vast improvement to the site,” Cr Holstein said.
More content will be added to the site in coming months with regular updates and additions.
