LISTEN out for the rumble of Harleys, Triumphs and more hogs cruising towards Gatton. That's right, the bikies are coming.
Not the Hell's Angels sort, but those that do it for the sheer love of their shiny, roaring beasts.
Newly appointed secretary of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club, Victor Odgaard, is excited about bringing the club to the region and promoting the opportunity for local enthusiasts to take part in meetings and rides.
There are more than 30,000 members across Australia of the Ulysses Club in 130 branches.
The local branch, Rim Valley, is keen to get started with upcoming charity rides, and road work.
The branch is formally from Forest Hill and is expanding to Gatton.
Mr Odgaard joined two years ago and says the Rim Valleys branch is a social club for men and woman over 40 who enjoy motorcycle riding.
“The club supports the Arthritis Foundation and the Institute of Bones and Joints,” he said.
“The club aims to provide ways for older motorcyclists to get together for companionship and mutual support.
“Motorcycling can be enjoyable and a practical activity for riders of all age, and to draw the attention of public and private institutions to the needs and views of older riders.”
Rim Valleys Branch was formed in Laidley six years ago and has been meeting for the last two years at Forest Hill.
There are currently 36 members in the Rim Valley branch. Geoff Purtin as the new president, and Gary Morris is new vice-president.
He hopes the club can attract a few more members as there are many fun activities to get involved with.
“Club rides include day trips and overnighters to destinations all over south east Queensland and northern New South Wales,” Mr Odgaard said.
