La Nina to bring rainy spring

QUEENSLAND can expect a wetter than average spring due to a mild La Nina forming in the Pacific Ocean, forecasters say.

Weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke says southeast Queensland should see good rainfall until late September.

"We're heading towards a La Nina (and) that looks like settling in," Mr Dutschke said.

"That'll probably kick in in late spring, so that will probably mean it will turn out to be wetter than normal.

"Nearly all that rainfall will be at the end of spring."

The storm season will probably bring more intense rainfall due to high humidity.

Temperatures will be warmer than normal, but extra cloud will moderate the effect, Mr Dutschke said.

Northeast Queensland will also experience a wetter than normal spring.

La Nina will have less effect on Queensland's west, which should experience near-average rainfall, but higher temperatures.

"Basically, across Queensland, it should be a warmer-than-normal spring," Mr Dutschke said.
