HUNDREDS turned out for the University of Queensland (UQ) Open Day at Gatton campus last Sunday to see what is on offer in terms of a career in rural industries.
Glorious weather helped attract many prospective students who turned out to check out the new multi-million dollar facilities and see the study programs on offer.
Peter Bapiwai is one scholarship student at UQ Gatton studying Applied Science, and majoring in plants.
He has spent eight months in Australia and lives on campus in Gatton.
His work for the Cocoa and Coconut Research Institute in Papua New Guinea prompted him to come to Australia to study and gain experience in the industry.
Another prospective student who was at the Open Day was Warren Power, who is interested in studying Applied Science, and dreams to own his own piggery.
“UQ have the courses that I want and I would also like to get involved in veterinarian science and plants,” Mr Power said.
