HERE are the results from the Laidley Football Club from the weekend.
U8: Jaguars played Withcott Bobcats on Saturday and trailed the Bobcats 1-nil at half time.
The Jaguars had some close attempts on goal but found the attack of Withcott too good in the first half.
The second half was a much better effort and with some good clearances by Ben Hodges and Angelo Lee and goals by Liam Bayles and Lachlan Tattam the Jaguars were able to run out winners 2-1.
U9: Laidley Tigers played Garden City Trojans at home in coolish conditions.
Tigers started slowly and were behind 1-0 early.
Once the team warmed up things started to work and some nice passing and team work saw the Tigers run out winners 7-3.
Goals by Ashley Gibson (3), Ben Granzien (2), Connor Plant (1) and Noah Davidson (1).
There was great work in goal by Olivia Granzien and a special mention for Abby Parker who played for the other side to make up their numbers.
U9: Cheetahs played Garden City Hunters and kept a very tight defence and were strong in attack making a number of attempts at goal.
It wasn't until the end of the first half when both teams each scored.
In the second half the Garden City Hunters scored a second goal resulting in a 2-1 loss for the Cheetahs.
U11: Cougars were evenly matched against the St.Alban Strikers in their game on Saturday.
The first half was entertaining with some great teamwork which led to Sam Brown scoring our first and only goal for the game.
Cougars fought hard for the whole game with a small lapse in concentration immediately after half time seeing St Alban Strikers scoring their only goal.
A great game by all to end in a 1-all draw.
The Draw may just be good enough to get the Cougars through to the finals series depending on the results of the other top four teams.
U14/15 : Lions took on the Garden City Celtics at Laidley in a top of the table clash on Saturday.
The Celtics made every post a winner early, skipping out to a half time lead of 2-0.
The Lions however, were a rejuvenated and more focused side in the second half with rapid-fire goals from Jeremy Vejle, and Nick Edwards (from the penalty spot), bringing the score back to 2-all.
Eventually though, Garden City prevailed, scoring once more, to take the match 3-2.
Great efforts were put in by Myall Fell in the midfield, with Sam Underwood and Jaimie Wood defending well.
All in all, a sound effort, though there is much scope for improvement.
U16: Wildcats took on top of the table Gatton on Saturday and the match turned out to be a very even contest.
Laidley worked hard to control the middle of the park with the halves working well to control the ball despite the blustery conditions.
Laidley created some good opportunities against the wind but just couldn't find the back of the net.
Some baffling decisions benefited neither team and only served to confuse those involved.
A good all round game which sees both sides contest next weeks preliminary Finals.
Colts: Congratulations must go the Laidley RSL Colts who qualified for the finals and played a wonderful game against Garden City Blue winning 5-1.
Laidley played with good controlled football early to string some passes together to set up the first goal that was a long range shot from Jack Brown that found the net to give the team some confidence early.
The defence was strong giving only two half opportunities for Garden City in the first half that Job King managed to save for Laidley.
The score remained one-nil to Laidley at half time, but there was still plenty of work to be done in the second half.
In the second half Laidley came out firing on all cylinders and continued to dominate field position and maintain good ball possession.
The team moved the ball around with a good short passing game in wet conditions, as they continued to demolish City with three goals from Nathan Barton and another to Jack Brown in the second half.
